Rethinking Tourism –
With the coming
together of exquisite natural attractions, sites of historical importance,
communities with enriched and diverse cultural heritage, and architectural
designs, any location possesses the ability to render a positive impact on the
psychological state of a tourist. Through the experience of their interaction
with the attraction settings the tourists who visit a location take with him a
completely different mindset back to his home. Thus, tourism becomes one of the
most essential and effective phenomenon for a state or a country in order to
develop financially and mark its name on the list of tourist attraction
sites.
People travel due to
various reasons among which the common reasons include the pursuit of pleasure
or commercial advancements. Depending on the interests of the tourists, tourism
varies from nature tourism to food tourism to cultural tourism to religious
tourism to medical tourism. Thus, promoting the destinations to potential
tourists by selecting the target travelers through the means of digital
innovations can lead the tourism sector. The modern tourism concept emerged in the 17th century and has been evolving since then. But in
the past tourist attraction sites had been limited to a particular area. Lack
of proper exploration has left many beautiful resources unexplored. Harnessing
the value of such places can not only make the location open for visitors to
add new knowledge with their personal level interactions but also generate
funds, which could be further used for social purposes.
Responsible Tourism is
another aspect every tourist and every state must focus on. Harold Goodwin, the
father of responsible tourism, who authored a book o the same, defined
responsible tourism as ‘making better places for people to live in and better
places for people to visit. Being a traveler and experiencing joy out of
the desired location becomes a one-sided affair. What if the tourists start
being responsible for their own actions? This would not only serve them but
also serve the environment, community, or economy as well. Responsible tourism
goes hand in hand with sustainable development. Since we are living in a
time of resource extinction, we must try to focus on matters to reduce
environmental and social impacts that would lead to further crises.
Community upliftment
and responsible tourism can be served on the same platter. Every community has
its unique ethnic food, culture, and lifestyle. The State can try to create
a space for the tourists in the community people and give them access to
their local products. These local products, for example, products made of bamboo
such as dustbins, can replace plastic bins. The delicately produced
handicrafts serve as environment-friendly reusable products that would attract tourists and develop the economic condition of the community people.
Moreover, tourists who mostly focus on nature tourism must or not be
allowed to carry plastic packaging by offering alternative provisions for eco-friendly products.
Assam tourism sector
has multiple scopes on various levels. The only thing that would help this
sector grow is the proper execution of sustainable ideas.
